Profiterole was rescued on 25th November 2025 British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) hotline received a telephone call from a concerned member of the public about a very young seal pup on the beach at Watergate in Newquay. 25th of November 2025 had been very busy day for the BDMLR volunteers, checking seal pups at different locations around the Cornish coastline.   After getting the call, the area coordinator on duty that day arranged for a team of marine mammal medic volunteers to check on the pup in Newquay.   After a visual assessment from a distance, a decision was made to make a full assessment of the pup.   Although the pup was a good weight at 18.8kg, she had a suspected digit fracture on front left flipper with some puncture wounds to her body. She was uplifted and taken to the BDMLR´s Cornwall seal hospital for initial care and treatment.   This female grey seal pup has been named Profiterole. This photo was taken in the BDMLR´s seal hospital on the 29th of November 2025. Update - 16th December 2025 : After some much needed rest and care at the BDMLR´s seal hospital, Profiterole was moved to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 12th of December 2025 to continue her rehabilitation. She has started to use her injured front left flipper a bit more, but it is still a bit swollen and sore.   Profiterole is being closely monitored and if it doesn´t improve with rest and medication, the flipper will have an x-ray to check to see if it is okay. Update - 26th December 2025 : Profiterole was moved down to the outside nursery pool number 4 for her next stage of rehabilitation.   This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.   She currently weighs 20.2kg. She is sharing this nursery pool with another rescued seal pup named Womble, they are doing very well and learning how to compete for fish which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild. Her flipper tag ID number is SL356 (yellow). These photos below were taken in the nursery pool on the 26th of December 2025. Update - 16th January 2026 : These photos below of Profiterole were taken in the rehabilitation pool on the 14th of January 2026.   She currently weighs 22.6kg. Update - 12th February 2026 : These photos below of Profiterole were taken in the rehabilitation pool on the 12th of February 2026. There was a break in the weather, so on the 14th of February 2026, it was time to release Blueberry Shortcake, Profiterole and Womble.   They have completed their rehabilitation and reached their ideal release weight of 30kg+.     During the release of these pups, the animal care team were assisted by some of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers.
