News Update June 2016
Happy 1st Birthday to Silver

The Staff at Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary were taken by surprise when resident common seal Tyne gave birth to a healthy pup a year ago on 5th June 2015. They had no idea she was expecting! A cute baby seal pup may have been the product of a holiday romance. Click here to read the press release from last June.

The rumour is that Herbert, one of the resident seals at Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary, is the father.

A fabulous birthday fish cake was made for Silver which he shared with his mum Tyne and friends. Now Silver wants more fish! Silver

A week old seal pup with a broken lower jaw is recovering after a delicate life-saving operation. Christened "Bonnie", (photo below) a female common seal pup, named by the Animal Care Team, was found seemingly abandoned alongside another uninjured pup on Old Hunstanton beach on 25th June 2016. It was not until back at the Sanctuary for a detailed examination that the Team discovered her damaged jaw.
She probably got in the way of an unfriendly adult seal and got bitten on the chin.

If You Discover a
Seal Pup in the Wild!

If you should discover a seal pup that seems to be in distress, or is alone, what you do next could mean the difference between life and death for the animal.

DO keep your distance; DON´T attempt to handle the pup; DON´T attempt to put the pup in the sea; DON´T ignore the situation; DO tell the appropriate organisation.
Please call the
Sanctuary on
01485 533576.
The Animal Care Team are on call around the clock to race to the rescue of seal pups in trouble anywhere around the coast.

Back at the Sanctuary, pups receive expert veterinary care and are gradually weaned from a liquid diet to whole fish in the purpose built hospital.

Then it´s to the outdoor pools to gain weight and build strength and stamina ready to resume life in the wild.
