Damien is our first grey seal pup this year. Damien was brought into our hospital as he seemed dehydrated, lethargic and had a lack of energy - which could mean low levels of glucose in his blood.

When we got him back to the hospital we soon realised that he was very hard to handle! He weighed 22kg and certainly knew how to use his weight!
Aggression in seal pups is a positive sign that they´re ready for release. Aggression shows that they do not wish to be around humans, which is perfect for when they´re put back into the wild - it´s highly unlikely they won´t come back! This is how Damien got his name; staff cleaning his pen have to be very careful when around him.
We hopefully will not be keeping Damien too long, we have sent faeces and blood samples off to see if there´s anything that needs treating - if not then he will be released immediately.

Update : 12th February 2011 - Damien has been moved into our pup pool as he´s very active, aggressive and is eating whole fish by himself. Once we get his test results back and they are clear of worms, Damien will be released back into the wild.
