Sooty arrived on 2nd February 2009
Sooty, a grey seal pup, was originally rescued in North Yorkshire by the Scarborough Sea Life & Marine Sanctuary.
He was moved to Hunstanton as we had more space available at the time. Sooty arrived with us on 2nd February 2009.

 | He had a small wound on his tail and was underweight weighing only 10kg at approximately 2 months old.
He has made good progress and now weighs around 20kg.
Sooty is quite naughty in a friendly way and likes to throw his water hose out of his pen flooding the room.
| Update: 24th May 2009 - Sooty has now been moved out of the hospital and into the outdoor pool and is making quite an impact with the rest of the seals. Being a young seal, Sooty tends to be quite playful, inquisitive and generally boisterous.
Update: 29th July 2009 - Sooty sleeps most of his time away - he is by far the laziest seal we have. We are now planning to release Sooty along with Buck back into the wild again and will very soon have a date! We will keep you informed as soon as we can confirm a time and date for their release.
| Update: 17th September 2009 - It had always been planned to release Sooty back to the wild at the same time as Buck - but when he was weighed it turned out that Sooty was not big enough or 'Fat enough' to be released yet. Normally we like the pups to weigh over 30kg before we release them - to ensure we give them as good a chance as possible once back in the wild. So Sooty has stayed behind with us in the outdoor pool with all of the other seals. He currently weighs 26kg.
Sooty is still a very lazy seal and just loves to find somewhere to laze about - soaking up the sun!!

Update: 30th November 2009 - Sooty has had a nasal infection and we are waiting for the results of a blood test before he can be released back into the wild!

Update: 30th January 2010 - Photo left of Sooty was taken on 27th January 2010 in the outside seal enclosure.
Update: February 2010 - Sooty along with Einstein, Lassie and Flipper were released back into the wild on 21st February 2010.
