| Sooty - Arrived on 24th June 2005 | |
![]() | Sooty came from Arisaig where she was picked up by the SSPCA officer on the 24th of June 2005, a ten day old pup who was simply abandoned and needed food. Sooty has zoomed through the nursery and is already out in the weaning pool with Perky, learning new skills. She bonded well with Samson when they pen shared and spent long hours sooking on each other´s flippers! |
| UPDATE: November 2005 Sooty along with Samson are no nonsense, get-fat-fast seals. They are still firm friends and love to play together next to window where they can keep an eye out for the visitors and blow bubbles when they pass by. Sooty and Samson will hopefully be released back into the wild before Christmas 2005. |
| UPDATE: January 2006 On 12th of December 2005, Sooty weighing 31kgs along with Samson weighing a convincing 35 kg, both pups were set out on to the shore at a secluded sea loch two hours drive from the sanctuary. There is a colony of seals at the mouth of the Loch where the pups are able to haul out after their first taste of the wild since their rescue. It is a great site because it is privately owned land meaning there are few passing humans that might distract newly released pups from the main job in hand of becoming wild again. Both pups were released from their transport boxes at the same time; they both flopped down into the water at the same time. They played in the shallows and seaweed together for quite a while. Then as if it was the most natural thing in the world, they swam out into the depths of the loch and that was the last we saw of them. Good luck Sooty and Samson. |
| UPDATE: February 2006 Sooty has been spotted in Ireland! We have heard a report that he (and his ID Tag) was seen hauled out near Loch Mhor, looking plump and healthy. Well Done Sooty. |
