| Perky - Arrived on 13th June 2005 |
![]() | Perky was the first pup to arrive into the nursery at the start of the season on the 13th of June 2005. She was a premature born pup and had a mammoth journey from Orkney Seal Rescue to the mainland where she stopped with British Diver Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), followed by the second leg to The Sanctuary three days later. She was underweight and skinny but, as her name suggests, otherwise a bright and alert pup. She has handled the rehabilitation programme well and is now out in the weaning pool full time with Sooty. There she is learning to eat fish underwater and is building up her swimming muscles. She will move outside with the adults in the next few weeks. |
| UPDATE: November 2005 Perky is very cheeky and has blossomed in the outdoor pools. She likes to steal the water feed pipe and plays with it resulting in the pools taking twice as long to fill up after a pool clean. Perky will hopefully be released back into the wild before Christmas 2005. |
| UPDATE: January 2006 On 19th of December 2005, Perky weighing 31kgs along with Branwyn weighing 27kgs, were taken to the same site as Samson and Sooty for their release. When the fronts of the transport boxes were opened, the two pups did the complete opposite of each other. Branwyn was off. No surprise there as she hasn´t hung about once throughout her rehab. As soon as she hit the shore she was down quickly through the seaweed and into the deeper water and there every so often her head popped up, a quick look around and then back down under in her element. Perky was not so fast, he meandered his way across the stones and down to the weed where he explored underneath it and through it, wearing the serrated wrack as a wig! Eventually he got in to a depth of water he could swim in and tried the wild out for size. Happily he finally met up with Branwyn and we left them playing in the deeper water together. |
