Mucky is a seal who likes his own company. He is very shy and consequently was finding life quite a challenge when it came to getting his fair share of the herring. He is currently in the weaning pool building up his strength and confidence so that he can then go out to the main pools and compete for fish against the other seals.
Mucky arrived here at the sanctuary along with Henry on the 30th of March 2005 to spend some time gaining weight and building themselves up ready for release back into the Pentland Firth. We hope that this process will be complete by early May 2005.

Update: August 2005
| Mucky and along with another pup called Claire were taken to Arisaig for their release on the 2nd of June 2005. Both pups had well exceeded their target weight of 40kgs (Claire was a colossal 50kgs), and the lift on to the shore with the transport boxes was a weight lifting nightmare for the two animal care staff trying to move their bulk over the rocks to the water´s edge. True to their grey seal genes, they both headed for the ocean, not looking back once.
