Kirk (Douglas) - Arrived on 5th February 2006
Kirk (Douglas), rescued grey seal pup Kirk, a grey seal pup, was rescued by the SSPCA in Inverness. They had found him badly injured on a local beach and he was promptly taken to the Highland Wildlife Hospital Trust at Ullapool on Christmas Eve. Beatrice Brinkler worked hard to improve his health cleaning his badly infected rear flipper and damaged eye. Combined with a course of antibiotics his infections were brought under control.
For the last month Kirk has been cared for at the Trust. He was transferred here to the sanctuary on the 5th of February 2006 as it is clear that he is going to require veterinary care to get him back to a state of health when he will be releasable. On arrival at the centre, Kirk weighed 14.5kg and was approximately two months old.

Currently his right rear flipper has a nasty wound that is infection free but by no means healed. His eye likewise is clear of infection but not completely healed. Although he is in a sorry state it has not affected his appetite and he is ploughing his way through fifteen herring a day. We will now work closely with our specialist seal vets to get Kirk back into shape so that he can be released to the wild in time for his next battle!
UPDATE: May 2006
Kirk was released back into the wild earlier this month to the joy of the Animal Care Team.
