| Jelena (Jankovic) was rescued on 6th July 2007 | |
| The second of our new arrivals, Jelena arrived the same day as Jamie named in tribute to the Wimbledon mixed doubles champions. She was found on a beach in Mull by a couple of walkers, she was so hungry that she actually tried to suckle on their boots and so the couple decided to try and help her. After telephoning the sanctuary for advice about the pup, they were advised to monitor her for as long as possible to ensure there was no sign of the mother returning. Unfortunately this was the case and so the decision to transport her to the sanctuary was made. | |
 | As with Jamie, Jelena was found to be approximately 5 days old and free from injury. She is currently underweight at 7.8kg but is progressing well. Jelena is the most laid back of the three pups and likes to spend her days sleeping on her back. Jelena and Jamie's Press Release |
| Hospital Update - 1st August 2007: Jelena is still pretty laid back and spends most of her day sleeping. She has also progressed to be force fed herring. A lot easier than Jamie, she seems to be taking to it very easily and is hardly any trouble at all. In the pool, she spends most of her time trying to catch her back flippers and so circles around in the water. |
| Hospital Update - September 2007: Jelena is doing great! She is taking fish by hand without being forced and even follows the staff around looking cute in an attempt to get more. The next stage for her is to take the fish from the pool for herself and we will be trying this shortly. |
| Hospital Update - October 2007: It has taken a while but Jelena has finally got the idea and has started to take whole fish from the pool herself. Once she has reached 20kg, she will be moved to the main pools joining Lorne and Lora. At the moment she weighs 15kg. |
| Hospital Update - December 2007: After a few weeks of taking fish for herself, Jelena has met the target weight of 20kg and has been moved to the main outside pools. She is really enjoying playing with Lorne and the other pups and is steadily putting on the weight she needs to be released once she reaches 30-35kg, our work is done and she can be released back into the wild. |
 | Update: 15th February 2008 - These photos of Jelena were taken earlier today in the outdoor seal encounters' pool. She currently weighs 25.2kg. Jelena's yellow flipper tag number is 26. |
|
| Update: March/April 2008 - Jelena is still competing well in the outside pools. She currently weighs 26kg. The release weight for Common Seals is between 30-35kg. |
| Update: 5th May 2008 - Jelena was released back into the wild on the 30th of April 2008 along with Ellen. These two little girls were quite reluctant to go but soon got the idea! |
