CORAL - Arrived 2nd July 2004
Coral, rescued pup Coral arrived at the centre after being cared for in Skye for 4 days. The founders of the International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF), Mr and Mrs Yoxon, not only care for injured and abandoned otters but accept seal pups into their hospital. This year they are already full and so needed to pass Coral on to us.
After her long journey Coral was allowed to settle into her pen. She was then given an initial examination and found to be perfectly healthy except for being a little under weight. She is now being fed on Multi Milk which has been formulated especially for seals. At two weeks old she will be weaned onto herring like the ones our adult seals eat.
For now she is sharing a pen with Dory and gets along very well with her. The two pups are very similar in looks and size so are hard to tell apart. Luckily Dory likes to try and bite at our ankles when we get in the pen while Coral just comes up and looks adorable. Both girls make us laugh as they roll around in their own poo and end up white with the grease. These messy antics mean both girls have to be washed down with soap every day while all the other pups easily come clean with a shower.
Updated 31st August 2004
Coral moved to the outdoor pools on Saturday the 28th August and immediately settled in. She looked tiny next to Jura but is able to hold her own despite her size. Coral is eating very well, without any fuss at all. Gigha is very kind to her, swimming past to look for fish but waiting until Coral has fed before she takes one herself. Coral had already figured out how to move between pools and regularly swaps over. She has already gained a great deal of weight since moving and will hopefully continue to thrive

Updated 11th November 2004
After a long spell of stormy weather on a wonderful autumn morning on the 11th of November 2004, Coral, along with Jura, were released into the Atlantic Ocean. Coral, a rescue pup, and Jura, Gigha´s 8th pup to be born at the sanctuary were driven south of Oban to an idyllic secluded spot. There is colony of common seals close by and good feeding to give them as good a start into the wild as we can. We wish them a long future fishing the west coast waters.
Updated April 2005
Coral has been released back into the wild.
