| Branwyn arrived on 24th August 2005 | |
![]() | Branwyn was found at the Marine Harvest Fish Cages, Corran Ferry. On arrival at centre on the 24th of August 2005, she was 5 weeks old and weighed 12.8kg. Branwyn had been seen on her own for about 2 weeks so some people decided to give us a call. |
| A member of the animal care team went out to examine her and decided that it would be best for her to come to the sanctuary. Branwyn was bright and alert on arrival but skinny and she had a wound on her front flipper. We gave her some fluids in case she was dehydrated and then left her to settle in for the night. The next day she was very hungry so we gave her some fish, which she ate very quickly and was looking for more. Branwyn quickly learnt to eat in the water she has now moved to our outdoor pools where she will get a chance to interact and compete for her food with the other seals. Then when she gets to between 30-35Kg she will be released back into the wild. |
| UPDATE: November 2005 Branwyn's deep cut on her front flipper has healed quickly. She has been a model pup throughout her rehab and made it to the outdoor pools only four weeks later after she arrived here at the sanctuary. We hope that she will continue through the rehab rapidly and be released into the wild before this Christmas. |
| UPDATE: January 2006 On 19th of December 2005, Branwyn weighing 27kgs along with Perky weighing 31kgs, were taken to the same site as Samson and Sooty for their release. When the fronts of the transport boxes were opened, the two pups did the complete opposite of each other. Branwyn was off. No surprise there as she hasn’t hung about once throughout her rehab. As soon as she hit the shore she was down quickly through the seaweed and into the deeper water and there every so often her head popped up, a quick look around and then back down under in her element. Perky was not so fast, he meandered his way across the stones and down to the weed where he explored underneath it and through it, wearing the serrated wrack as a wig! Eventually he got in to a depth of water he could swim in and tried the wild out for size. Happily he finally met up with Branwyn and we left them playing in the deeper water together. |
