MUGGLES - RESCUED 06/11/01
Muggles was found hauled out on Crossapol Beach by a man out walking. Nearby was a dead adult seal which we assume to be her mother, as there were no other seals in the area. A worried local contacted the sanctuary and then cared for the pup until it could be transported to the mainland.
Muggles is underweight for her age, and was very dehydrated when she arrived at the sanctuary, but she is a very alert (and aggressive) pup. To combat dehydration, Muggles was given fluids for 24 hours, and now we are slowly weaning her onto fish, as naturally in the wild this is when she would begin to feed on fish herself.

Updated 02-03-2005
Less than 2 weeks after she arrived at the sanctuary as a malnourished pup, Muggles was moved into the weaning pool, where she immediately started eating chopped up herring. After only 10 days in there she was managing to eat whole herring as soon as they hit the water, so she was moved outside to the resident seals pools on the 30th of November. Again here she showed her confidence and settled into outdoor life very quickly. She continued her trend of grabbing and swallowing fish as soon as they hit the water, and she certainly held her own against the adult seals.
Muggles put on weight very quickly, and although having been at the centre for only 2 months, Muggles was released on the 20th of December weighing 41 kg. Definitely our star pup!
