Angie - Arrived on 9th December 2004

Angie, rescued seal pup - Photo taken by Heather Angie, along with Clarisee and Bruiser, three grey seal pups, were rescued by Ali Jack and the team of animal medics at BDLMR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) up in Thurso. All the pups were about 4-5 weeks old and had received their initial first aid prior to their journey south to the Sanctuary. All three were very aggressive pups and were a challenge to feed. However, they have all progressed well and are at last eating whole herring by themselves. Consequently Angie and Clarisse quickly moved outside to the adult seal pools and are holding their own amongst the other seals (just!).

Angie was rescued from the outdoor Trinkie Swimming Pool in Wick after stormy weather. She had a broken toe in her rear flipper. This has healed well with no assistance from us. She has a very strong character and likes to be first to the food by almost blocking the gate into the pools. Despite being larger than all the common seal pups, she has to battle daily to retain her herring as the commons try to steal them out of her mouth! She and Clarisse (as grey seals) like to keep themselves to themselves and rarely bother with the others.

Update: 5th April 2005
Angie was released back into wild along with Clarisse and Lenny on 30 March 2005. These three amigos had to make a mammoth return journey back to Thurso for their release at Dunnett Bay beach. The animal care team made the first leg of the journey to Inverness where they were met by British Diver Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) to complete the adventure north.

Angie initially found life in the outdoor pools a bit stressful due to the number of pool mates. She spent a lot of time hauled out on the edge but as soon as the summer common seal pups were released, Angie settled into a routine very quickly. She became more relaxed and this is when her love for Lenny blossomed.
