JURA - Born 30th July 2004

Jura was born on Friday the 30th of July 2004. She has lived in the adult pools with her Mother, our resident seal, Gigha, her whole life and has had very little contact with humans. She was weaned from her mother´s milk at five weeks of age and she now lives happily alongside her parents and the other pups. Jura and Gigha
Through watching her father and mother, Jura learned how to eat fish for herself. We even watched her parents lifting herring up from the pool base and dropping them close to Jura as though encouraging her to feed for herself. Her confidence has grown so much that now Jura even pinches fish from her mother´s mouth!
Jura, looking very healthy After a long spell of stormy weather on a wonderful autumn morning on the 11th of November 2004, Jura, along with Coral, were released into the Atlantic Ocean. Jura, Gigha´s 8th pup to be born at the sanctuary and Coral, a rescue pup, were driven south of Oban to an idyllic secluded spot. There is colony of common seals close by and good feeding to give them as good a start into the wild as we can. We wish them a long future fishing the west coast waters.
