Say hello to Yum Yum, a 10-12 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from Gorran Haven beach on the 22nd of January 2026 by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers. She was found with wounds to her body and underweight.
A decision was made to take the pup to the BDMLR´s hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care.
These photos below were taken on the 24th of January 2026 in the BDMLR hospital.

Update - 4th February 2026 : After spending a few weeks at the BDMLR´s hospital for initial care and treatment, Yum Yum was transferred to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 4th of February 2026 to continue her rehabilitation. She is currently in the main hospital and will be moved to the outside pools soon.

Update - 3rd March 2026 : Unfortunately Yum Yum´s eye and flipper have not improved with treatment as hoped. On the 9th of February 2025 Yum Yum went to the vets to have her eye and damaged nail bed removed, which will eliminate any more discomfort. She has now fully healed from her surgery so Yum Yum can start swimming again!
The Sanctuary´s veterinary team have done this procedure many times and seals can adjust well to missing limbs. There is no reason why Yum Yum will not be able to live a long and happy life in the wild once she has fully recovered.
These photos below were taken on the 2nd of March 2026.

Update - 9th March 2026 : Yum Yum was moved down to the outside nursery pools for her next stage of rehabilitation. This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in. These photos below were taken on the 9th of March 2026 in nursery pool number 2.
Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.
Her flipper tag ID number SL381 (yellow).

| Update : Yum Yum along with Doughnut have now fully recovered and are at the perfect weight of 30+kg, ready to thrive back in the wild! They were released back into the wild on 27th of April 2026.
