Wensleydale was rescued on 21st May 2022
Wensleydale, a 2 days old premature female common seal pup, was rescued from Brancaster beach after being separated from her mum. She was first found on the evening of the 21st May 2022 and it was hoped that mum would return but sadly by the next morning she had not so the pup was lifted from the beach by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue medics taken for a quick veterinary assessment and brought to the Hunstanton seal hospital. Wensleydale Update - 12th June 2022 : Wensleydale is being well cared for by the specialist animal care team and is so far showing positive signs.

She currently weighs 8.8kgs.

Update - 6th July 2022 : Wensleydale is now in the hospital´s weaning pool learning how to eat fish in the water during feeding time. As she progresses in her rehabilitation, she will eventually move to the brand new pup recovery pool which is outside and next to the resident seal pool.

Seal Pups Recovery Pool Update - 10th August 2022 : Wensleydale along with 3 other rescued seal pups have had their first swim in the brand new outdoor pool on 8th August 2022 when they were moved from the hospital for their final stage of rehabilitation.   Click here to read the Press Release.

Update - 13th September 2022 : Wensleydale has now completed her rehabilitation and is ready to be returned to the wild in the coming weeks. Wensleydale
Seal Release - 19th October 2022 Update - 21st October 2022 : It is always a good day when the Animal Care Team return the rescued seal pups back to the wild where they belong, but at the same time it is a bit emotional saying goodbye after being with them for three months or more. Wensleydale along with Camembert, Applewood, Blue Cheese and Brie, were released back into the wild on 19th October 2022.
