Scales is a male (2 weeks old whitecoat) grey seal pup that was rescued from Porthmeor beach on 26th September 2021 by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics.

Lizzi Larbalestier, BDMLR marine mammal medic, said "firstly thank you so much to the team of volunteers who spent the last couple of weeks monitoring the pup and mum and massive thanks to Grace Jones for coordinating this pupwatch. This very small male pup was uplifted and taken to Cornish Seal Sanctuary earlier after no signs of mum for two days. His temperature was 36.4, his weight a tiny 13.5/14kg and his gums were pretty pale. No major wounds...just too small! We really have given him the best chance to stay one wild before making the decision to uplift him...and we hope he will fly through rehab. Thanks to Andy who has been down the LOADS and to Angela Louise Yorke who popped down this morning to offer help...Also to a lovely lady called Micky brought us homemade cake and is going to sign up to be a medic how cool is that!?"
