| Jarvis the Seal Recovering Well after Successful Eye Operation
|
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is delighted to share that Jarvis, the common seal, who captured hearts across the country through an extraordinary community fundraising effort, is recovering well following his successful eye surgery.
The 10 year old seal underwent a specialist procedure this week to remove cataracts that had severely impaired his vision. Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of supporters who helped fund the operation, Jarvis is now resting comfortably under the close supervision of the Sanctuary´s expert animal care team.
Early signs are extremely encouraging, with Jarvis already showing positive progress as he begins his recovery journey.

Tamara Cooper, Curator at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, said "We´re absolutely thrilled with how Jarvis has come through the procedure. He´s been bright, alert and slowly getting his appetite back, which are all fantastic signs. This operation simply wouldn´t have been possible without the incredible support we´ve received from our community. Seeing Jarvis take this important step towards a better quality of life is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved."
The procedure was carried out by Veterinary Ophthalmologist Claudia Hartley, and the expert veterinary team at the International Zoo Veterinary Group who took care of Jarvis´ anaesthetic during the procedure keeping him safe and his after-procedure treatment plan.
Claudia Hartley, Professor of Veterinary Ophthalmology from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, said "Jarvis is a beautiful and very charming seal that I am lucky to have known for a few years. I am delighted that we were able to successfully remove the cataract in his right eye and his anaesthetic was smooth. He will take a couple of weeks to recover fully and the team looking after him are completely dedicated to him. Thank you to everyone that donated to his care, you have changed his world beyond measure."
The Sanctuary´s team will continue to monitor Jarvis closely as he recovers, with follow-up assessments planned to track his progress and ensure the best possible outcome.
The success of the operation marks the latest chapter in a remarkable story that brought together supporters, veterinary specialists and local businesses, all united by a shared determination to give Jarvis the chance of a brighter future.

Sarah Pegg, General Manager at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary added "The support for Jarvis has been overwhelming from day one. Every donation, every share and every message of encouragement helped us reach this point. We´re so grateful to everyone who believed in Jarvis and helped make this life-changing treatment possible."
While the fundraising target has been reached, any additional donations will help cover Jarvis´s ongoing aftercare, medication and rehabilitation as he continues his recovery.
