Sad Passing of our dear Summer!
|
We have some very sad news to share about our much-loved Asian Short-Clawed Otter, Summer.
Summer, who was suffering from age-related illnesses, was being monitored by her loving and dedicated care team, who recently noticed a decline in her health. Following veterinary advice and assessment, the difficult decision was made to put Summer to sleep, to prevent any unnecessary pain and suffering.
Summer arrived at SEA LIFE Hunstanton in 2011 and soon had a family with her partner Brutus, resulting in their four cubs, Smartie, Twix, Skittles and Yorkie. As the family grew, the group were re-homed elsewhere around the UK, leaving Summer and Twix to share their home in Hunstanton. Having now lost his Mum and partner in crime, Twix is being carefully monitored by the welfare team to ensure that he is coping and he is receiving plenty of extra TLC.
Our team have shared some of their favourite photos of Summer, who will always be remembered as the perfect balance of sweet and sassy. She will be sadly missed by the team, some of whom have worked with her for over 8 years. We know she will be missed by our visitors too.
