Mousse Pie was rescued on 25th November 2025 Say hello to Mousse Pie, an 8-10 weeks old female grey seal pup, who was rescued from Sennen near Land´s End by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers.   She was found with a suspected swelling to right side of face, severe wounds all over her body and flippers also had a high temperature.   The injuries could had been caused by the recent storm.   Rescued weight 18.2kg. The pup was uplifted and taken to the BDMLR´s seal hospital for initial care and treatment. Update - 11th December 2025 : After some much needed rest and care at the BDMLR´s seal hospital, Mousse Pie was moved to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 9th of December 2025 to continue her rehabilitation. Mousse Pie has now finished her course of antibiotics, and wounds are healing well on their own.   Once Mousse Pie has fully healed, she will be excited to move to the outside pools onsite to finish her rehabilitation, eat lots more fish and make some friends. Update - 26th December 2025 : Mouuse Pie was moved down to the outside nursery pool number 3 for her next stage of rehabilitation.   This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.   She currently weighs 21.7kg. Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild. Her flipper tag ID number is SL357 (yellow). Photo below was taken in the nursery pool number 3 on the 26th of December 2025. Update - 14th January 2026 : These photos below of Mouuse Pie were taken in the rehabilitation pool on the 14th of January 2026.   Mouuse Pie currently weighs 22.6kg. Update : Mousse Pie along with Sundae, Abeona and Angus, have completed their rehabilitation and reached their ideal release weight of 30kg+.   They were released back into the wild on the 19th of January 2026. Update - 9th March 2026 : Mousse Pie has been spotted at a haul out along the coast of Cornwall on 15th February 2026. © Photo credit : Terry Thirlaway - 15th February 2026 By monitoring the behaviour of seals after release back into the wild, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Seal Research Trust and other organisations can use this information to define the best practice standards and policies that they can share with the international rescue community. Each seal´s fur pattern is unique and enables the organisations to track them for life.   Seals face many challenges, yet we all depend on them to balance our marine ecosystem, which is essential to make the oxygen we breathe.   Seals are our globally rare wildlife tourist attraction, helping diversify coastal economic prosperity.
