[River Otters]

We would like to announce the sad news that Isla, the North American River Otter, passed away on 10th August 2016.

Isla, who arrived at the Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary in 2008, had been poorly for a few days with staff noticing she wasn´t eating properly.
Isla Isla was taken to the vet as staff initially thought something was wrong with her teeth or mouth but on closer inspection it was discovered that she had numerous health problems including peritonitis and a shadow on her lung and stomach.

Therefore the decision was made to put her painlessly to sleep rather than have her suffer anymore.
Isla is survived by her devoted partner, Lewis, the pair were officially married at a ceremony in 2011 and he will be carefully monitored by staff to ensure he is coping with the loss of his life partner.

Isla will be sadly missed by all the team here at the Sanctuary, especially the Animal Care Team who looked after her during her time with us over the past 8 years.
