Iced Tea was rescued on 18th June 2023

Members of the public were out on their early morning walk at Snettisham beach on the 18th of June 2023 when they heard a young seal pup crying out and noticed that it seemed confused.
The people didn´t want to walk away and not do anything so they reported a potential unwell seal to the Hunstanton SEA LIFE. The supervisor arranged for some members of the Animal Care Team to observe and check on the pup.
As the pup was alone and with no sign of mum, the team took the decision to rescue. She is estimated to be about 10 days old at the time of rescue. She was found incredibly skinny and in need of some serious TLC!

On arrival at the seal rescue hospital, a full assessment was carried out including giving the young pup electrolytes to rehydrate her.
This season´s theme is soft drinks and the team have called this common seal pup "Iced Tea".
Iced Tea is already a very vocal seal and is very clear with the team when she is ready to eat again! She is on a diet of fish soup with important electrolytes and vitamins and the team are slowly introducing fish to her too which so far she loves.
As she is quite young, she is also being very sweet and showing up some cute self-soothing behaviours like suckling on her tail but also suckling on the animal care team after a feed.

Update - 8th July 2023 : Iced Tea has gone from strength to strength and although she has a long road ahead, she is clearly improving after a few days in the hospital.
As the pup progresses in her rehabilitation, she will eventually move from the hospital to the brand new pup recovery pool which is outside and next to the resident seal pool.
