Our medical assessment highlighted that the pup is suffering from a cold and she has multiple wounds of unknown origin. It may have been that due to her cold she was struggling to keep up in the rough conditions and became separated from the rest of the seals. While alone and so young, she would have been unable to defend herself and this could be the reason she received wounds to her body. A combination of factors is the likely reason why she was found on the beach in need of rescue.
Update: 25th November 2011 -
Holly is coming along just fine. She is putting on weight every day and currently weighs almost 20kg (doubled her weight since arriving at the sanctuary). She will be hopefully moving outside to the outside pools with Lora and Brendan, the resident common seals, within the next two weeks. Lora and Brendan will teach Holly how to become a seal and care for herself before she is released back into the wild.

Update: 30th January 2012 - Holly is doing great and has put on loads of weight and is now ready to be released. She will be released the week after February´s Half Term back into the wild with a green tag on her left flipper so we can identify her should she decide to come and visit us again.
