GUINNESS - Rescued on 20th October 2005 Guinness was rescued by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue team (BDMLR) from Crackington Haven on the 20th of October 2005, he was approximately 2 weeks old, malnourished and weighed 13.5kg which is below his birth weight (14kg). At present, Guinness is being tube fed with liquidised fish and with treatment of multi-vitamins and iron tablets. He will spend around 10 days in isolation before being moved into the main hospital. Update: Photo was taken of Guinness on 30th of December 2005 in the convalescence pool. Update: Photo was taken of Guinness on 26th of February 2006 underwater in the convalescence pool. He is wearing hat hag number 07 and his flipper (light green) tag number is 07. Update: 7th March 2006 - Guinness along with Quinn (wearing hat tag 05), Blonde (wearing hat tag H3) and Bob (wearing hat tag H2) where released back into the wild on Tuesday the 7th of March 2006. All four seals were loaded up in the morning. All were keen to get in to the cage and get in to the trailer, to start the journey to Port Gaverne. The rain which had started early in the morning showed no sign of easing up, and the seals seemed unaffected by the wet weather. On arriving at Port Gaverne, all four seals were keen to get in to the water and start their adventure. Guinness and Quinn were out the trailer and straight in to the water, Bob and Blonde were not so keen. Bob and Blonde found that playing in the shallows was much exciting then exploring the wide open seas.
