Fonzie

A rescued grey seal with no name at presentFonzie was rescued on 27th of April 2006 from the Old Hunstanton beach, we have still to think of a name for him. He was found with a large amount of netting cutting into his neck. Once we had cut the net off, we could see that it had cut in about an inch deep all around the top of his neck. Apart from this wound, he is doing well and will stay inside the hospital until new skin has started to grow over the wound, then he can go out into the main pool before he is eventually released. He will always have a mark around his neck but the wound should heal over time and he will be able to go back to the wild.

Update: 9th July 2006 - We have called the seal pup Fonzie and he is know outside with the others and doing well. The wound has healed over but he still has a slight dip around his neck where the net cut down which will always be there.
Update: 12th August 2006 - Fonzie is putting on weight and will be released very soon. He is enjoying the weather and are spending a lot of time sun bathing at the back of the pool when we have some sun anyway.
Update: 3rd September 2006 - Fronzie along with Houdini were both released back into the wild on 1st of September 2006. The release went very well and they were both very keen to get out of the stretchers and into the open water.
