VINE was rescued on 23rd December 2003
Vine - Photo taken by Dan Jarvis On Tuesday 23rd December, BDMLR volunteers were called out to assist in the rescue of a Grey Seal pup from the beach at Porthmeor in St. Ives.

The pup had first been seen, alone, at about 2.30pm in a rocky area, and the people who had first seen it were still there watching it and stayed throughout the rescue. They reported that it had not moved much since the first sighting.
Upon their arrival, it was obvious that with the rough sea and incoming tide, it very likely that the pup would be badly injured or killed once the sea reached it. After contacting us, it was decided to rescue the seal due to the danger of the injuries the waves would cause it. They brought Vine back to our hospital where we found she had various wounds and was malnourished, she was about 6-8 weeks old.
Update 16th April 2004 - Vine was released back to the wild with Neil and Ash on 16th April 2004 from Gunwalloe Towans (Church Cove).
