VENETIA was rescued on 23rd December 2003
VENETIA - Rescued 23rd December 2003Venetia was rescued by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) at Porthmeor Beach, St. Ives, just before Christmas 2003. At 6-8 weeks of age, she was malnourished and had several small wounds to her body and a badly swollen left rear flipper. Close examination and x-rays of the flipper revealed that it was not a fracture; instead, it was swelling from a soft tissue injury that responded well to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatments.
Update 20th April 2004 Venetia made good progress through the Hospital, and was able to be moved outside within a month of coming to the Sanctuary. Unfortunately, Venetia struggled to feed herself at first with lots of other pups sharing her pool. But once in her own pool she soon got the hang of it and when she was re-introduced to the other seals she was seen stealing fish off other pups!

Venetia was the first female pup to be released this season at a hefty 45 kilos on 16th April 2004.
