Superman was rescued on 10th October 2014
Sue Sayer (Cornwall Seal Group) set off to look at a pup after messages from Dave & Lesley (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) and Emma (National Trust). When she arrived she found the pup guarded by Adam (National Trust) and Michael a holidaymaker, Sue was surprised by how big the pup was.
When she checked out the pup Sue could see numerous strange wet patches covered in sand which looked infected. Sue and Michael had to stop the pup escaping until Dave and Lesley arrived with a large cage!

It was decided that because of the pups size it would better to persuade it into the cage, it took a few attempts but finally the pup was in and then weighed...40kgs!

With the potential for multiple infections the pup was driven back to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary where it could get the best care.
Superman
Superman - Photo from Sue Sayer The Animal Care Team named the male grey seal pup Superman, and he was two weeks old when rescued on 10th October 2014 from Gwithian beach. He had multiple bite wounds on his rear flippers and back. These bite wounds may have come from a male seal or another female with a pup of her own.

This one is probably the biggest white coats the sanctuary has ever had in...weighing 40kgs! His mum obviously cared for him very well!

Upon arrival at the Seal Sanctuary, the pup was put into isolation pen of the hospital as a precaution but will be moved into the main hospital in a few days time.

Superman is spending most of his time sleeping and recovering safe in the hospital. The members of the Animal Care team are cleaning the pup´s wounds twice a day and spraying them with blue antibiotic spray and they are already healing. Once healed Superman will be allowed in water.
Update - 27th October 2014 : Superman is now in the convalescent pool learning how to compete for fish with the resident adult seals. He will hopefully be released back into the wild before Christmas.
