SPECKLE - Rescued on 28th December 2005

Speckle, rescued grey seal pupSpeckle was rescued by the BDMLR from Mutton Cove near Godrevy on 28th of December 2005 when she was spotted from the top of the cliff with fishing netting entangled around her body. BDMLR volunteers organised Speckles rescue and cut the netting off to find that the resulting injuries were relatively minor and she had been spotted just in time. More concerning was the ulceration to her right eye for which she would require treatment for.
Back at the hospital, Speckle´s wounds were cleaned and she is now receiving a course of antibiotics and antibiotic eye drops.

Update: 1st July 2006 - Speckle along with Wilson (wearing hat tag ID J2), Bess and Storm (wearing hat tag ID C4) were all released back into the wild at Porthtowan on Wednesday morning (28th June 2006) at 7am. All the seals went off OK, with a little bit of hesitation, and started to head off in wrong direction before realising the sea was in the other direction, and went straight for it. Two of them spent sometime surfing in on the waves. Five minutes after they went, a pod of eight bottlenose dolphins turned up to meet them.
