SILKIE - FIRST PUP OF 2000 RESCUE SEASON
Silkie was rescued on the 19th September 2000 from Boscastle. She was a fat pup but had a very swollen rear left flipper with a wound on it. On further inspection the animal staff found the flipper to be very badly infected with large amounts of pus coming from the wound.

Silkie was put straight onto antibiotics, painkillers and anti-inflammatories to control the infection and relieve her discomfort. She received fluids to stabilise her and now is being fed fish as she is weaned.
Silkie in our Hospital
Update: 12th November 2000 - Silkie's rear flipper has been removed because the severe bite wound infection she was rescued with, did not respond to intensive treatment.

This procedure has been carried out in extreme cases at other seal rehabilitation centres and has proved a great success.

This will not prevent Silkie being released, and it is felt she will make a full recovery.
