On Sunday evening the Animal Care Team checked the weather forecast and the report was for good sea conditions on Monday 22nd of January 2007 so at 6.15am, the Animal Care Team made an early start at work to load up some of the very fat seals and release them back into the wild.
The Animal Care Team loaded up Roo, Ronnie, Daisy, Gnasher and Penfold in the trailer and headed out to Porthtowan.
We arrived on the beach at around 8.30am to find the sea conditions were a little different to what we expected.
The breakers were a little bigger then we would have hoped for, but beyond the waves the sea conditions were good. We decided that the pups would have no problems getting pass the breakers, and went ahead and dropped the door to the trailer.
First out were Gnasher and Daisy, who with Daisy leading were straight into the water, over the breakers and gone. They were closely followed by Penfold and Roo, who once had realised that it was sand beneath their flippers, headed down to the waters edge, they turned and waited for Ronnie, but Roo and Penfold became inpatient and the thought of the open ocean was too much for them. Ronnie left on the beach, and Roo waiting in the shallows, got Ronnie all excited, and with a little bit of flopping up and down the beach finally made it into the water. Ronnie stayed for a few minutes playing in the breakers, before saying goodbye to the people who had looked after him over the last few months.
