Woking Girl Jenny Plays Key Role
in March for Marine Life

Woking girl Jenny Hickman was in the vanguard of a march on Westminster on Monday 25th February 2013...with Fish Fight campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and 2,000 supporters.

Jenny, 23, of the Barnsbury Estate, Woking, was a key organiser of the huge rally which sought to pressure the Government to approve 127 special protected marine zones around the UK coast.

March on Westminster Education co-ordinator at the Sea Life London Aquarium, she and colleague Rebecca Carter also organised a nationwide postcard petition which saw 40,000 Sea Life visitors sign up in support.

"We worked closely with the Marine Conservation Society to plan the procession from County Hall to Old Palace Yard, Westminster," said Jenny.
"The involvement of Hugh's Fish Fight was a real boost, but even so we were overwhelmed that so many people turned out on a bitterly cold day in February.

"It really shows the strength of support for efforts to counter the damage done to our marine habitats and native marine life by decades of damaging bottom-trawling, dredging and other harmful practices," she said.

"Hugh has really helped get the whole country behind the marine conservation mission, and everyone at Sea Life is very proud to also be playing a big part," she said.
