First Pup of the Season has Arrived!

With the seal mating season in full swing it was only a matter of time before The Cornish Seal Sanctuary had some rescued grey Seal Pups to care for. On Saturday 27th of September, our first pup of the season was picked up by British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

Stardust, a female grey seal arrived at Seal Hospital where our brilliant Animal Care Team started the process of rehabilitation. Stardust was separated from her mum, and was found on the rocks of Gwithian beach. Although she had no visible injuries, she was so hungry she was found suckling on the rocks, which has given her a sore muzzle.

Stardust in the hospital For all the seal pups that come to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, they may have different reasons for being there but one thing remains the same. And that´s the dedication from the Animal Care team.

With between 30 to 50 pups expected each year, they like to plan ahead with the names of the new Pups. This year the theme that has been chosen is Super Heroes! And once the team meet the new arrivals, they have a pretty good idea which name belongs to which pup.
Make sure you don´t miss out on seeing what it is the Cornish Seal Sanctuary does and head to Gweek and have a peek at our Pups. They expect to rehabilitate up to 50 seal pups each year but it´s not all year you can see the pups, it´s generally between September and February they need caring for.

At this time of year the Animal Care Team ask all beach goers if you do find a pup on the beach, please call the Sanctuary on 01326 221361, and follow this advice:-

DON´T attempt to handle the pup.
DON´T attempt to put the pup back in the sea.
DO keep your distance.
DON´T ignore the situation.
DO tell the Cornish Seal Sanctuary 01326 221361.

Special Offer - This year we are offering our Pup fans the chance to purchase the Pups Pass, an exclusive pass that allows you to visit as many times as you like between September 2014 to February 2015 for just £15!.
