Sad news about Sula our Otter

Staff at The Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary have been deeply saddened by the loss of their female North American Otter Sula.

Sula had been ill for several weeks and a veterinary examination discovered she was suffering from a serious and inoperable heart condition.

"After a further veterinary examination on 4th December 2007, the difficult decision was taken to put Sula to sleep to spare her any further unnecessary suffering," said Sanctuary Manager Alex Blackman. "Everyone here is naturally very upset. Sula was not merely a resident, she was like a member of the family and we will all miss her terribly."

Concern has now shifted to Sula's partner Fingal, who is being watched closely for signs of anxiety arising from the loss of his mate.

"We have already begun an urgent quest to find a new partner for Fingal and are confident he will not be on his own for too long."
