"Blessed Release" - 21st June 2004
One of Britain´s best loved actors who has climbed Mount Everest and appeared on stage and screen has helped the National Seal Sanctuary release two of this seasons pups back into the wild.

Brian Blessed who has just completed a UK tour of the Haunted Hotel playing "Sir Francis Westwick", agreed to help the Sanctuary release Pauline and Ragwort, two grey seal pups on Friday 18th of June 2004. Brian was contacted by the Sanctuary a couple of months ago to invite him to assist at one of our upcoming seal releases.

The two grey seals ready for release have spent the last five months at the Sanctuary recovering from their injuries.

Pauline, who was found behind a boat at Porth Helstock with large wounds to right flank and belly, which made catching fish very difficult, was rescued in December of last year. Ragwort who was rescued from Porthmeor at St Ives also had large wounds to his body.

The Sanctuary had once again requested the assistance of Captain Keith and his crew of Orca Sea faris in transporting the seals to their release destination.

"At this time of year we prefer a boat release instead of a beach, as the beaches can be very busy" said Glenn Boyle.

"The seals will be taken on a 20 minute boat ride to get to the release site; it is lovely to share this experience with someone who has an interest in animals".

Brian, who is president of the National Parks and has a small holding of his own, was as the Sanctuary hoped, delighted to help in any way.

"This was a fantastic experience and glad to see these animals returned to the wild" said Brian "this is a good cause that I plan to shout about the length and breadth of the County".
