Ursula (Andress) arrived at the centre on 12th November 2008

Ursula (Andress)Ursula (Andress), a grey seal pup, was brought to us by the SSPCA on 12th November 2008 after they had been made aware of it being alone. In the wild a grey seal would be with its mother for approximately 3 weeks before she leaves it to fend for itself. In this time she would feed the pup up until it weighed roughly 40kg. In the case of this pup, we suspect that it has left its mother but been unable to feed itself so has lost a considerable amount of weight. Her approximate age on arrival was between 3 - 4 weeks old and weighed 11kg and was found at Inver near Tain.
As Ursula would no longer have been on it´s mothers milk he has already started to get weaned on to fish and we are feeding him small slices of herring. Over the next few weeks the size of the slices will be increased until he takes whole herring and then he will be moved to the weaning pool area before being put outside prior to release.

Update: January 2009 - Ursula is still in the hospital and feeding herself, she will be moved outside to the pools shortly for her final stages of rehabilitation and then release back into the wild.

Update: March 2009 - Ursula was released back into the wild on 5th March 2009 along with Daniel and Honor.
