Otter News Update for June 2007

With the arrival of the new animal care team, it has been a ´getting to know you´ period for both the otters and the new staff, Tina, Kat and Gareth. Fingal has taken it all in his stride and only really cares about who has the food. Sula has always been a little bit more wary and although she still occasionally growls, she is now settling down nicely. With all the changes on site, they are remarkably calm about it all, they just want to be loved and fed.

Fingal and Sula are as fit and healthy as ever and are currently enjoying the increase in temperature, charging about all over the place when getting fed and generally playing chase around the enclosure.

The "show-offs" of the site, there is never a dull moment during feeding and Fingal has no problem using the displays team as a moving climbing frame!

He has fallen in love...with the new uniforms on site; he absolutely loves the feel of the new fleeces on his face and tries his best to wipe his chops all over whoever comes in to feed him. He also seems to have got into the habit of nuzzling Kat and likes to sit on her knee after feeding for a bit of tender loving care.

Sula is not quite so keen but she is edging closer and closer to the displays team, sometimes resting her paws on their wellies. Hopefully over the next few weeks, this will continue to advance and we, the team, will soon feel the same unique bond they had with Fingal and with Sula also.

All in all both otters are in good stead and enjoying the steady increase of visitors that are coming to adore them!
