PEARL - Arrived 4th July 2004
Pearl, rescued pup Pearl arrived at the sanctuary with Flo after having been spotted on Friday 2nd July 2005 by a member of the public. The pair had moved up a small river estuary, through a flood barrier and up a grassy slope onto the edge of the golf course. Oban police were informed of the problem and also took turns in watching the sleepy pair. Once they were sure that the pups had no parents nearby they contacted us for help.
Despite being found together examination revealed that it is quite unlikely that Peal and Flo are twins. Pearl appears much younger than Flo as she has far smaller teeth and her umbilicus is not as healed over. Her initial assessment has revealed no other problems and she will simply be given a general course of anti-biotics to aid her defences. Pearl loves to curl up next to Flo for a good long sleep, often resting her head on Flo´s shoulder. They are both quiet pups and are very similar in size and looks. Pearl is slightly paler than Flo and so it is just possible to tell who is who.
Updated 31st August 2004
Pearl has now moved into the weaning pool full time. She is eating well and is one of the heaviest pups at the moment. Over the next few days, we will stop handing her food and start to throw it all into the pool. She must learn to pick the fish off the floor and eat them unaided. Once she is fast at this, she will move outside to our main pools.
Updated January 2005
Pearl and Flo are as inseparable as ever, swimming and playing together lots but also interacting with the other pups. No one can remember a pair of pups that so definitely belong together as Pearl and Flo and it is amazing that they are still as close as the day they moved into each others pen.
Updated April 2005
Pearl has been released back into the wild.
