Charlie was rescued on 3rd June 2008
Charlie is our first common seal pup rescued this season. She was brought to us by the SSPCA on 3rd June 2008 from Inverness. The SSPCA were made aware of her being by herself and monitored Charlie to see if her mother was around. After watching for a while, it was clear that the mother was not going to return and Charlie had been abandoned.
Charlie, a rescued common seal pup This sparked her rescue and she has been brought here to the sanctuary to be cared for by us. Being such a young seal (2-3 days old when she arrived), Charlie would have still been on her mother's milk and so we will be feeding her a special milk formula every few hours for the next couple of weeks. Then she will be moved onto fish and get a chance to swim before being moved to the outside pool and eventually returned back to the wild. Charlie, a rescued common seal pup

Update: 1st August 2008 - Sadly Charlie passed away on 25th July 2008. We are still awaiting the full details from her post mortem but believe she was having difficulties digesting the food. It´s a sad loss as Charlie was the first of three pups rescued so far this season (2008/9) and was the cheeky lassie of the 3.

Charlie had got to the point where she was being fed larger pieces of fish; the Animal Care Team saw that she was not her usual bright self and sought advice. They followed the advice given but unfortunately she was too poorly to cope by then and passed away over night.
