VANILLA (Rescued 28/10/02 - Released 12/02/03)
Vanilla arrived on the 28th October 2002. Vanilla was brought to the centre from Campbeltown by the SSPCA. She already had her adult coat meaning she was aged between 3-4 weeks. She is very silvery in colour and very wild.
For the first 24hrs after her arrival she was given fluids and sugars to rehydrate her after the long journey. She was old enough to eat fish and immediately started to nibble fish left on the pen floor.

She is not vocal like Saffron but gets our attention by tapping on the glass of her pen, just like the common seal Aragorn. She has now moved into the weaning pool and is putting on weight
UPDATE 7th December 2002
Vanilla has now moved to our outdoor pools. After a three week isolation period her blood tests showed she did not have the Seal Distemper virus and was clear to move outside. She has reached a very healthy weight of 29kg in the nursery and is feeding very well.
She loves playing around with all the other pups who were very curious about the appearance of a new Grey seal pup. Vanilla is in very good health and now needs very little care from the team.
UPDATE 15th February 2003
Vanilla has now completed her rehabilitation! She was released on the 12th of February at Arisaig near Mallaig, about 2 ½ hours north of the centre. It was a lovely calm, sunny day allowing us to see all the way to Eigg and Rum.
As we let her out of her travelling cage she made straight for the sea and was soon exploring the coastline. As we watched we saw her swim about a mile out to sea, with Jasmine following close behind. Vanilla was 55 kg on release and was in perfect health giving her the best chance of success in the wild..
