Deep Sea Stone Crab
Deep Sea Stone Crab (Lithodes maja)

This amazing crab is rarely seen as it is only found in deep water. The back (fifth) pair of legs appears to be missing but is in fact tucked under the abdomen. The female uses them to stroke and caress her eggs to keep them clean and aerated with fresh sea water. These crabs are well protected from most predators due to their sharp irregular spikes all over their shell and legs.
