NEMO - Rescued on 14th December 2006

On Thursday 14th of December 2006, the Seal Sanctuary had a telephone call from a member of the public that was concerned about a seal at Looe. This pup was a moulted coat and looked a little thin. The Sanctuary staff called one of the BDMLR to go and have a look, and report back to us. The report was that the pup was not looking very good, and so with this report, we advised them to bring it in to the Sanctuary.
At the Sanctuary the pup was put in to isolation 2 and given a clinical assessment. The punctures to the rear flippers and tail were cleaned and treated, fluids given and a course of antibiotics. This pups weighs 14 kilos and around 5 weeks old, but overall not too bad, and so should be in and out the Sanctuary very quickly. The pup is a little boy and has been named Nemo. Update: 24th April 2007 - On Friday 20th of April 2007 at 7am Nemo along with Ariel, Spongebob, Tigger, Bambi and Belle were loaded up into the trailer for their release back into the wild, and we headed out to Gwithian. We arrived after a very bumpy journey (seals getting excited about the sea air) to find the water flat and calm. As soon as the trailer door was down, all six were off, with Ariel leading the way, two stayed around for about 10 minutes before finally disappearing around the coast. All in the trailer
