| Malcolmina - Arrived on 11th October 2007 |
| On Thursday 11th of October 2007, the Seal Sanctuary received a call from Tim (a member of the BDMLR) about a pup on the beach at Porthminster, St Ives. The pup had been disturbed by the public, and was also looked malnourished. Clare and one of the volunteers here at the Sanctuary, grabbed the rescue kit and cage and headed out to St Ives. When Clare arrived the pup was resting on a ledge, but was very thin and dehydrated. Clare gave the pup fluids and decided to bring the pup in. |
| On arriving at the Sanctuary, the pup was put in to isolation and a clinical assessment given. The pup had no injuries but was underweight at 11.5 kilos, and around 2½ weeks old and just going through her moult. The pup was given fluids for the first 24 hours, and was then given fish heads and tails to see if she would feed her self, there were no problems with her feeding. The pup is a little girl and has been named Malcolmina after our Site Foreman who last Thursday turned 65. | ![]() |

Hospital Update: 26th October 2007 - Mina is now in the water. She is still trying to get use to this idea, as her bottom seems to spend most of the time in the air. Mina has also to remember to close her nose when she dives. Fish is also providing to be uncooperative as it keeps getting stuck under her plastic bucket. |
