It´s a Kind of Magic for Delighted Children

Staff from flood-ravaged Hunstanton SEA LIFE Sanctuary have helped build a unique new play area for Kings Lynn´s Churchill Park School in conjunction with Merlin´s Magic Wand charity.

With their seafront attraction under reconstruction, Sanctuary staff joined others from parent company Merlin to help deliver a special tonic for the Churchill children.

Merlin's Magic Wand Funded by Merlin´s own charity Magic Wand, the new play area is designed to bring some much needed joy into the lives of the special needs children at the school...and is partly themed on the Hunstanton Sanctuary.

Some of those children, who ages range from three to 19-years, officially opened the new facility for themselves on Friday 5th September 2014, when they had their first chance to sample its delights.
Features include a role-play area where they can pretend to be seal rescuers; a big rotating "rattle wheel;" a water play area, two sand-pits, a Perspex paint wall and a "troll" bridge which is fun for all.

"I was very proud and honoured to be asked to build this project and be given this opportunity to create memorable experiences for the children" said Merlin´s Project Manager Angela Rudd.

Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary "Despite being closed since December of last year when the Sea Life Sanctuary suffered severe flooding during the tidal surge we have still been able to reach out into our local community and touch the lives of our local children" she added.

Churchill Park Complex Needs school was formed by merging two former special schools and opened in September 2009. It presently provides education and facilities for 176 children and has been a regular visitor to Hunstanton SEA LIFE Sanctuary since its opening.
"Everyone at Churchill Park school are absolutely delighted with the results of this project. Our friends from Sea Life have taken on board a real insight into the needs of our children and young people, nothing has been too much trouble, we are genuinely overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and generosity." said Elaine Peveritt, Business Manager at the school.

Merlin´s Magic Wand arranges and funds trips to its many leisure attractions for thousands of worthy youngsters.

Merlin's Magic Wand "For those unable to travel we are increasingly striving to take the magic to them," said Magic Wand Charity Manager Sandra Hazel.

"We are really proud of the facility we have been able to provide at Churchill Park and hope to use it as the blueprint for other similar projects around the UK," she added.

Meanwhile the Hunstanton SEA LIFE Sanctuary team is now hard at work preparing for the grand re-opening on 16th October 2014.
