Rescued Pups Update for 2014/15
Here is a diary of the rescues and releases of seal pups for January 2015. Lots of comings and goings with the help of members of the British Divers Marine Life Team (BDMLR). Enjoy!
3rd January 2015
Shrek, 10 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Pendeen by members of the BDMLR team. He weighed 19.5kgs and was found to have superficial wounds to his body.

6th January 2015
Toad, 3 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Penberth Cove by members of the BDMLR team.

He was found to have numerous puncture wounds to his flippers and body. On the front left flipper, the third claw risen and swollen digit and had a high temperature. Upon arrival at the seal hospital, he weighed 18kgs.

8th January 2015
Thor, 8 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beautiful beach at Porthcurno by members of the BDMLR team.

He was found to have minor wounds on flippers and infected cut on chin. Also had a swollen first digit on rear right flipper and breathing slightly ruckly and weighed 18kgs.
9th January 2015
Hulk, 8 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Widemouth Bay by members of the BDMLR team. He was found to be underweight, with bald patches on head and had small abrasions on the bottom of both front and rear flippers.

11th January 2015
She-Ra, 12 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Gwithian by members of the BDMLR team.

She was found to have a large wound on the fifth digit on her right rear flipper which was swollen. She-Ra had discharge from her nose and a high temperature. The pup weighed 22kgs.
Olaf, 3-4 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Trebarwith Strand near Tintagel by Michelle Robinson, Del Baldwin and Simon Dolphin, members of the BDMLR team.

The seal pup was taken to the BDMLR´s temporary seal holding facility until a pen was available at Gweek. The pup was found to have superficial wounds and an upper respiratory tract infection. He weighed 13kgs.

12th January 2015
He-Man, 8-10 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beautiful beach at Porthcurno by members of the BDMLR team. The pup was found to be underweight with some wounds and some nasal discharge. He weighed 19kgs.
16th January 2015
Beast, 4 months old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Porthgwidden in St Ives at 6.30am in the morning by Tim Bain and Dave & Lesley Jarvis, members of the BDMLR team.

Tim Bain had spotted the seal the night before on Bamaluz beach (St Ives) hauled out, he was pleased that the seal was on Porthgwidden beach, this time Tim with the help of Dave and Lesley managed to capture it. The pup was entangled in the net which had cut in quite deeply and showing signs of infection around the neck.

18th January 2015
Pepper, three months old female grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Holywell Bay in Newquay by members of the BDMLR team.

The pup was found to have high temperature, and puncture wounds to muzzle and flippers. Weighed 24kgs.

Elektra, 10 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from Castle beach in Falmouth by Kate, member of the Animal Care Team and Rey, an Intern at the Seal Sanctuary.

The pup was found to be underweight with small puncture wounds on her rear flippers. She was not using front right flipper at all and her left eye stained up. Weighed 17.5kgs.

Emma Frost, 8 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Gwithian by Dan, a member of the Animal Care Team.

The pup was found to be underweight at 19kgs with minor wounds to her front flippers and a deep wound on her rear flipper, as well as a high temperature of 38.7°C. Emma´s eye also stained up.
Frost
The first release of pups for the 2014/15 season were Anastacia, Ariel, Bruce Wayne, Superman, Quick Silver and Wonder Woman on at Gwithian. Click here to watch a video of the seal release by Pirate FM Radio.

Aquaman, a male grey seal pup, was rescued from the Bamaluz beach in St Ives by Tim Bain and Dave & Lesley Jarvis, members of the BDMLR team. This pup was malnourished, superficial wounds on flippers, snotty slightly ruckly breathing and high temperature. Weighed 16.5kgs.

Sabretooth, 10 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from Nanjizel by members of the BDMLR team. This pup had lots of puncture wounds all over his body, deep wound on lower lip, sneezing and coughing. Weighed 25kgs.

Echo, 8 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from Porth beach in Newquay by members of the BDMLR team. This pup had a broken rear left flipper, first digit bone protruding and some puncture wounds. Weighed 16.5kgs.
26th January 2015

Joker, 8 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from the beach at Lamorna Cove, which is situated on the Penwith peninsula approximately four miles south of Penzance, by members of the BDMLR team.

The pup was rescued due to net entanglement, net was cut away and he has a fairly deep wound all around his neck. He was also a bit snotty with an eye problem. Weighed 21.5kgs.
