Seals in the Wild
The Seal Sanctuary not only relies on the public to spot injured or abandoned seals but also to help with the post monitoring release. If you are out and about the Cornish coastline and you spot a seal, it may be a seal the Sanctuary has released in the past.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the Cornwall Seal Group would like to know about any seals which are spotted with tags, they need to know it´s location (where you saw the seal), the colour of the tag (each rescue season they use a different colour tag, this year (2014/15) it is a yellow tag), the date you saw the seal and the behaviour of the seal.

Then please contact the Cornish Seal Sanctuary via email and Sue Sayer, a member of the Cornwall Seal Group, via email.

Here are a few photos of seals spotted in the wild around the Cornish coastline.

Deputy Prime Minister
Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, paid a flying visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary on 5th March 2015 to meet staff and animals, to announce a £5 million boost to attract visitors to the south west.

This was only a short visit for the Deputy Prime Minister to the Seal Sanctuary where staff had managed to find him a pair of bright white, size 13 wellington boots.

He was then able to get up close and feed some of the sanctuary´s resident common seals, under the watchful eye of Dan Jarvis (photo below) of the Animal Care Team.
Nick Clegg - 5th March 2015
Mr Clegg was joined by Julia Goldsworthy, the Liberal Democrat´s prospective candidate for the Camborne, Redruth and Hayle constituency, which also includes Gweek.

Mr Clegg also saw seal pups who had been rescued over the winter from Cornish beaches. He said that the Liberal Democrats would push for tighter measures when charges for plastic carrier bags are introduced later this year. He was told how plastic waste can be harmful to marine wildlife such as seals.

As the Deputy Prime Minister was leaving, he told staff "I could stay here all day. I´ll come back and bring the kids."

Nick Clegg is not the first Liberal Democrat leader to visit the Seal Sanctuary as back in 1992 the Cornish Seal Sanctuary was inundated with reporters and photographers.

Cast your mind back to April that year and you may just recall the smaller matter of an election!

Paddy Ashdown, on a flying visit to the West Country, had asked to visit the Sanctuary. Click here to read more.
