Update 8th February 2006

Magnus has been very cheeky this week and has been taking the fish out of his bucket himself as the team can not feed it to him quick enough.

Sheba is halfway through her moult and being pestered by Ray.

Lizzie has not started her moult yet.

The animal care team are back to cleaning the pool as we have only 3 pups in the hospital, Anneka is being very nosey and getting in their way.

Snoopy is still squinting and she is now moulting and very very grumpy.

Ray has been trying it on with Sheba, but she is not interested at all.

Marlin and Ray are back to being best friends.

Atlanta is trying to get in on the action with Ray and Marlin.

Flotsam and Jetsam have spent the week chasing sea gulls, and even at one point this week tried to chase a helicopter that had flown over the Sanctuary at a very low height.

Flipper and Yulelog have been arguing a little this week, so the team are feeding them at opposite ends of the pool.

Rocky and Pepper have been very hungry this week, and Pepper has been very vocal at feeding times, and is now back to eating her fish whole.

Carus has been saying hello to the visitors this week by coming out the pool when any body goes by. He has also been getting a little more exercise. The animal care team decided to treat all our residents to some sprats. With Carus the team would throw them to the other side of the pool so he could fetch them, he didn’t seem to mind they were only tiny fish.

Bamboo and Thai are both still doing their training with no fuss and being well behaved. They have also enjoyed the sprats this week.

Tuppence, Bracken and Muffin, our ponies, have had a good groom this week, and have been treated with a new head collars.

Elvis, Priscilla, Monty and Churchill: Priscilla has had a little cough this week, but cleared up by itself after a couple of days, the team will keep an eye on her over the next week or two.

PUP UPDATE

Bogart is still struggling to eat fish, and the vet has changed his treatment.

Sting has had clear bloods and has now been moved down to the nursery pool.

Ginger has now been moved to the main hospital, she is being force fed fish, but doesn’t seem to keen on it.

Tusker and Humbug are both off their treatment now.

Fawn and Bess are both feeding well, now that the boys have gone.

Shambles had lost a tooth, and the hole has become infected. Shambles went to the vets last Thursday to have the wound cleaned and is now bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Bob puncture wounds to his head which have now all healed.

After Quinn lost her hat last week the team have now stuck it back on.

Tanglefoot has now turned into the demon seal from hell, and likes to bit the other pups and staff when they are cleaning

Stella, Bailey, Storm and Guvnor are all doing well and are the next to be hat tagged.

Amber, Hobson, Wombat, Speckle, Doom, Wilson, Skiff, Crumpy, Ghost, Ouiji and Slip are all doing well in the convalescent’s pool.

On Monday morning (6th of February 2006) saw the release of Vixen, Spike and Casper. Casper has been released with no hat tag as when he arrived at the Sanctuary he was very fat and would be very hard to jump. Casper weighed 40.5 kg and was eager to get in to the trailer. Spike has been hat tagged and his hat number is ‘09’, Spike was a heavy lump and weighted 57 kg. He was happy to join Casper in the trailer.

The team then went in to the nursery pool 1, to decide who was to go next. As they came down the steps Vixen made a point of coming up to the cage. That made the decision for the animal care team and the cage door was opened and in she went. This was of great cheer to the team as Vixen was a very feisty pup, and would try and bite the team every time they went in to her pen. Vixen was weighed and came in at 38.5 kg and has also been hat tagged with a number and a letter ‘C7’ (this is because we have run out of number hats.)

After they were all loaded up, we headed off to Porthtowan on the north coast of Cornwall to reels them.

Luckily we managed to get close to the waters edge. The trailer was open and first out was Vixen, who headed straight out in to the water Casper and Spike were a little more hesitant but after a good look around the decision between the trailer and the open sea, the water won and they headed out.
