Lora, Ledi and Avon
Ledi, on release On Monday the 29th March Lora, Ledi and Avon were taken back to the wild. After checking the weather forecast the three girls were loaded up in travelling boxes first thing on Monday morning. They were then put into our van to travel the 2 hours north to Mallaig. The boxes were taken down onto the shore with great effort, as the pup release weights were; Avon 43kg, Lora 50kg and Ledi 53kg.
Once all three were lined up we removed the box lids and let them have their first taste of freedom. Lora was the first to make a move down the shore and was so fast that the first glimpse we got of her was way out into deep water. Avon quickly moved to the waters´ edge but then travelled along the shoreline in the shallows before moving out to deeper water. Ledi was the most laid back of all, taking time to look around and play with the seaweed before moving out to join Lora.
We were joined at the release by representatives of Semi-Conductor Production Sytems Ltd who had sponsored Ledi and Avon with a very generous donation. We watched until the girls were all out of sight, far off into the distance. All three should have the best possible chance of survival now they have been returned to their natural home.
