Fundraising for seals can be fun!
Pinniped, seals and sea lions evolution can be traced back as far as 25 million years, early exploitation from commercial hunting brought many species of pinniped to the brink of extinction, while earlier this century one species, the Caribbean monk seal, disappeared altogether and the Mediterranean Monk Seal is on the Critically Endangered list.
Unfortunately commercial hunting still continues in several countries and these wonderful creatures now face new threats from marine pollution, over-fishing, and entanglement in marine debris, fisheries-related culling, disturbance and bycatch with the result that in many cases the future of pinniped populations is precarious.

Celebrate World Oceans Day at school, youth club or work by holding a non-uniform or dress-down day. Why not have a Mediterranean theme to support the Mediterranean Monk Seal with shorts and t-shirts being the order of the day, staff, pupils and employees can make a small individual donation to Seal Conservation (e.g. £1 per person). Why not add some Mediterranean food to the event for that authentic feel!
Every individual or group that participates will receive a National Seal Sanctuary SOS Conservation Certificate just for taking part in a sponsored event. If you raise £100 or more you will receive a National Seal Sanctuary Adopt-a-Seal pack including an adorable cuddly seal.

You don't have to wait for World Oceans Day take a look at our Top Tips and Ideas for fundraising events:-

- Shave your head or wax your legs...the more painful, the more sponsorship money you'll get!
- Have a car boot sale, clear out all that unwanted clutter, sell on all those toys you no longer play with and raise money for seals!
- You could bake a batch of homemade goodies and sell them during your office breaks. You will be amazed at how much your employees or colleagues will appreciate home baking and a nice cup of tea (for a small price of course!) at 3pm on a rainy afternoon.
- Keep your sponsorship form on you, you'll be surprised who will sponsor you!
