Flipper arrived on 16th June 2009
Flipper, a common seal pup, was rescued from Snettisham beach on 16th June 2009. When arrived at the sanctuary she weighed 10kg and was only about 24 hours old - she arrived back at the Seal Rescue Centre with her umbilical cord still attached.

Common seal pups normally lose their umbilical cord when they are about 4 days old. Unfortunately there was no sign of her mother around her.
Flipper
Flipper She is the most vocal of all of the seal pups in the hospital at the moment.

She is still in the process of being weaned off milk and onto a diet of fish. The fish that she is now learning to eat is being hand fed to her and she is learning really well. Within the next few days we expect her to complete the weaning process.
Update: 17th September 2009 - We have had to go through a stage of force feeding Flipper herring as she didn't progress from milk onto fish as easily as we had hoped for. She then moved onto hand feeding but would still did not pick up the fish herself - she seemed to almost expect us to continue hand-feeding her!! After a couple of weeks she finally learned that fish tastes just as nice if you pick it up yourself and now she is quite greedy. She was moved from the hospital and into the outdoor pool on 2nd September 2009. She weighs over 20kg now. Pups in the outdoor pool
Update: 30th November 2009 - Flipper along with the other 2 rescued pups, Einstein and Lassie, are all fine and ready to be released back into the wild shortly.

Update: February 2010 - Flipper along with Einstein, Lassie and Sooty were released back into the wild
on 21st February 2010.
